  1. In class today we learned about " A Worn Path". It was a story of a woman, who was old in age and would do anything for her nephew. She struggled through many obstacles, and yet still achieved her goal. We also talked about journeys and the differences and similarities between peoples journeys.

  2. It was nice that the old woman (Phoenix) would dedicate so much love for her nephew (I thought it was grandson)...
She had to face an incredible journey that affected her physically and mentally.
Physically was that she had to go to the city and mentally was that the troubles she had to get to the city, and she was of old age, so she would forget why she made the trip. It was interesting reading about her journey.

  3. In class, we read "A Worn Path". It was about an old woman, Phoenix, who had to face a journey full of obstacles for her grandson. The story shows how strong her love for him is. In the beginning, we wrote a paper on our journey. The paper I wrote about affected people physically & mentally like Phoenix. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve your goals. It helped people think in a whole new level. (:

In the beginning of class, I wrote a paper on a journey and it was similar to the story we read. The journey I wrote about and Phoenix's journey both affected themselves physically and mentally. It helps people think in a whole new level (:

  5. We started unit 5 this week, and we are learning about modernism. Our class was assigned to do a Poetry Cafe, where we have to find a poem to do our project on to present to the class.
We also have read some poems in class, for instance ones written by Robert Frost; his poems show alot of imagery and color.

  6. Today we wrote a journal about our opinion of a journey, whether it is physical and/or mental. Then we read "A Worn Path", by Eudora Welty. After reading that, we then compared what we said a journey was, compared to the journey in the story. Then you told us to come here if we wanted extra credit...

  7. In class this week, we have read many poems written by established poets of the modernist movement. A common characteristic of these poets is that they sought to express the elements of life, while being written in a free verse style. "Old Age Sticks" depicts people aging and "A Worn Path" highlights an elderly woman's journey to aid her grandson.

  9. In class, we learned about many different types of poems and poets of the modernist time period. They express characteristics of life. These poems are different because not all of them rhyme. We read "A Worn Path" today that showed how dedicated an old lady (Phoenix) to help her nephew by overcoming obstacles.

  10. Today in class, we first expressed our opinions on whether a journey is physical or mental in a journal. Then, we read a poem called "A Worth Path", which was about an elderly woman who suffered physical and mental strain in her journey to care for her grandson. After that, we compared and contrasted our ideas of our journey journal to the ideas expressed in the poem.

  11. Hey guys! Thanks for all the great comments! Just to clarify, it was Phoenix's grandson that needed the medicine. I noticed some said it was her nephew, that is incorrect.

  12. Today in class we read "A Worn Path" about a old lady (Phoenix) going through all these obstacles such as the fence, and the hunter, for her nephew. Her newphew need this medicine every mmonth or else he would die. I think this was more of a mental journey then a physical journey because she had to keep a mind set that she could do it the whole time.

  15. In my opinion, this story can be completely over-looked and thought to be extremely boring. However, something struck me. Phoenix was so willing to do whatever it takes, completing a mental and physical journey and obstacle in order to take care of a loved one. It seems as though in today's society, that's not even heard of anymore. Thus, I found that "Jourey" was yet another story that has more to offer than what meets the eye.
