  4. The type of writing i enjoyed was the Native American myths. The writing piece that was my favorite was "The Earth on the Turtle's Back". I enjoyed it because of the way Earth was created was nice and the talking animals. I think I can relate to some of the animals in the story. I try my best and sometimes I can not achieve my goal which is similar to the animals that try to get the Earth but can not reach it. But on the other hand I am like the Muskrat who tries its best and never gives up sometimes.
There is no other response to comment to so I do not see how i can do that part.

  5. The Puritan poems/sermons were my favorite. I felt like these poems/sermons had very good points to reach across to the Puritans. The writters poems/sermons were sometimes scary but they were always centered around God. I could identify with the writter because my life, like a Puritans is centered around God.

Do you feel like they did? Could you identify with their actions and feelings? Could you see yourself in their position?

  7. The type of writing I enjoyed most was probably the Native American creation myths. They were so unique and creative on the ways they believed that humans, animals, and Earth in general was created. I don't think I could really relate well to these Native Americans because I'm not a Native American but I think I am a very unique and creative person just like the myths they wrote.

  8. My favorite selection of writing was the Native American Myths. My favorite reading was "When Grizzlies Walked Upright". I liked this reading because of the way the creation of the earth was portrayed and the kindhearted bears. I feel like the story also sent a moral or lesson, that you should follow instructions carefully because if you don't they will be consequences. I could identify with the Sky Spirit's Daughter because ,like her curiosity, i am also curious. Although i am a sweet respectful and sweet individual, my curiosity always seems to lead me into trouble.

  9. My favorite was "Grizzlies Walked Upright". I really liked it because it was original and different from the rest of the stories. I like how they explained the "evolution" of bears and how they used two talk and walk on two feet. It is a very interesting story and I can relate to the girl because sometimes i am very curious. I take risks all the time but not as risky as hers. The risks I take are on little things but I can still relate to the way she feels. I really enjoyed the story.

    My comment for SK-200327013-4:
I really liked that story too. It was fun and creative and I could also relate to some of the animals. It is good that you try your best even though you sometimes do not reach your goal. You just have to keep on trying:)

  11. My Favorite type of writing was Native American Myths. My favorite piece was "When Grizzlies Walked Upright". I really liked this myth because it was very interesting with fictional characters. These characters along with the strong imagery attracted me to this myth. I especially liked how the sky god came down and lived on(the mountain)his creation. I could relate to the sky god's daughter because she was curious. I am very curious. I always either get yelled at or get into trouble because of my curiosity.

I really liked how you mentioned about the evolution of the bears: that's something I didn't think about. That was interesting. I also liked how the myth says that the bears could talk and walk on two legs. I can also relate to your statement about being risky. I also do take small risks.

  13. My favorite type of writing out of the above list is the Native American Myths because their creation stories were creative and somewhat entertaining. "The Earth on Turtle's Back" is my favorite piece of the Native American writing I have read. Although my beliefs are extremely different about the creation of the Earth compared to the speaker, I can still relate to the animal characters in the fact that they are determined to achieve something. I can also relate to the animals because I try to be considerate to others like the animals were to the girl falling out of the sky.

My comment on DC-9930900-2: I agree with you about your comment on the creativeness of the story of "The Earth on Turtle's Back." I do not think I would have been able to come up with that silly of a story to explain the Earth's creation.

My favorite writings were the Native American Myths. My favorite one was "The Earth on the Turtles Back". I liked this one because they used a little animal do do such a big job. Some people think that little people cannot do big things. I can relate to this because I think anyone who wants to achieve something can do whatever they want no matter what size they are.

    My comment for GM-200266706-4...
I agree that they had really good lessons and also I can relate/identify to you because my life is centered around God as well. (:

Native American myths, slave narratives, explorer journals, and Puritan poems/sermons. Of these, which type of writing and which piece was your favorite? Why? Could you identify with the speaker, writer, or characters? Why, or why not?

I personally liked the Native American myths, which one of my favorites was "Grizzlies walked upright", because I like the way the story tries to tell how humans and grizzlies came to be in a mythical, different way of the story teller's view. I think it is a very unique and fun way to tell a story thats in real life through a myth and make people understand how they came to be in a different perspective of the author. I can also identify the characters as the Grizzlies have personification, because the Grizzlies talk and walk like humans and humans came to be through the grizzlies and the girl itself basically from God above.

I also agree with your thoughts on the "Grizzlies walked upright". The story is very interesting as to its uniqueness that leads to the story and outcome of Grizzlies and humans.

  17. "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano",a slave narrative writing, was my favorite piece throughout the unit. It was both vividly descriptive and gritty and dirty. My experience from the reading was mesmerizing, as I could not identify myself from Equiano, the main character. The ordeals he faced was beyond what I can imagine.

For me, I found it hard to like the Puritan style, as it was too plain for my taste. I suppose if one had a more close relationship with God, he/she could find the style more enjoyable.

  18. My favorite part of Unit 1 was the Native American Myths. I really enjoyed learning about how Native Americans believed the earth came about. It funny how people imaginations work and how they can come up with many wonderful things. I noticed that Native Americans were very observant of the world around them. They noticed all the changes in the seasons and in the animals. I can relate to how the Native Americans observe things because I believe that I am a very observant person. I believe many people in our world today don’t take notice to the smaller thing in life. My favorite piece was the turtle walk upright. It also showed of how a woman was the person that helped create Earth and how all the animals came to support and help her survive in the new world.
    My Comment to RS-200269754-4:
I agree with this person and being curious. Because I too am a very curious person and that always leads me into some kind of trouble. I think that sometimes being curious and genuinely trying to learn is a good thing but that top can get you into some trouble some of the time

My favorite was the Native American myths one. The stories are very interesting and creative. The way they thought the earth, animals, and creatures was made was hilarious. I could not relate to the writer because I would never have thought of the world like that. And they think of ideas that no one else had ever thought of. Very interesting.

I would have to agree with this person. They feel the exact same way as I do. The native americans were extrememly creative and thought of the craziest ideas.

  21. my favorite writing was the Native American myths. "When Grizzlies Walked Upright" was my favorite myth. i liked it because it showed that no matter how different people are from each other they can live in harmony. i can relate because i'm not like anyone in my family but i still enjoy my time with them.

  23. The piece I enjoyed the most was the sermon written by Johnathan Edwards, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God". It exemplifies just how strong of an effect vivid imagery could have on a person; by making the reader imagine, very clearly, the horrors of hell, them suffering it, and then finally giving them a simple way out creates a fallacious 'need' to believe out of a concept that - to a non-believer - is just that: a concept, and nothing more. I couldn't relate to Mr. Edwards, but I applause the persuasiveness of his loaded wording. His work shows just how strong words can be and, in realizing their strength, how much power they don't have.

    @ GM-200266706-4
While I can see where you're coming from, I fail to see how anything in the puritan writings had 'points' at all. Nothing in them, especially in Edwards poem, had anything that could be related to one's life (mind you the difference between your life, and what you hold as truth). They were more of instructions to living by a certain faith. Faith, while possibly an important aspect of life, lacks logic which is needed to 'make a point'.

  24. My favorite genre was the Native American myths, and my favorite myth was the "Earth on the Turtles Back". I liked this because I enjoyed the way that people used originality to explain the unexplainable events. I can relate to the writer in how he was able to make up a story to explain what he could not understand. I could not relate with the charecters because they were all animals.

I like the comment made by NH-200191223-5 because they were able to relate little events in their own life to the curiosity of the native americans.

  25. My favorite writings were the Native American Myths. " The Earth on the Turtles Bacl" was my favorite story because it was very easy to understand with personifications of animals.
I liked the creativity of origin of our earth.
Animals in this story are very determine and do their best to get what they want just like me.
Relate to animals in this story, we are both harder workers and never gave up to achieve what we want.

I agree with SM-9932840-4. This story was very creative and entertaining. Myths are always creative and fun to read!

  26. My favorite group of writings that we read were the Native American Myths. I liked "The Earth on the Turtle's Back" the most because it had a unique way of explaining how the earth was created and how a determined person can achieve great things. I can relate to the muskrat in the story because it was the animal who tried its best and was able to pull the earth up. I feel like when I try my hardest that I can succeed in very difficult situations.

I agree with JJ200408100-2 that many people don't notice the small things in life today.

  27. The Native American myths were very interesting and fun to read. They were much better than the plain style of writing by the puritans. The Myths of the native americans were passed down orally and most tell stories of origin, like how earth seasons or humans were created. A lot of the characters used in the stories are fictional and have unhumanlike powers this makes the stories very interesting and a joy to read and understand.

  29. The Native American Myths were my favorite of everything we read in the unit. "The Earth on the Turtles Back" was, in my opinion, the best of all of the myths we read. It was extremely creative and stood out for it was somewhat realistic just as much as it was fictional. I can realate to the girl that fell through the sky in a way that many others cannot. My family is an amazing support system. The animals are like my family. They are helpful and caring.

    My comment to AP-200351837-2:
I like that you refered to the significance of size of the animals. It is true that someone of smaller size may not be able to achieve something that a larger person could. But many smaller people working together could achieve just as much if not more than a bigger person.

  30. My favoritewas he slave narratives. They were very intersting and made you think about how good you have it compared to others now and in the past. I personally couldn't identify wih the witers or characters because I've never been through an expirince that could compare to that of the slaves.

  31. i liked earth on turtles back because it was strait forward and fiction so they could go where ever they wanted with it. it was a fun story also

  33. My favorite was the Native American Myths because they kept me the most entertained. My favorite myth was "Earth On turtles Back" because i thought it was funny that they thought this is how the world became what it is now". I can relate to how hard the animals worked on what they cared about. And yes i could notify the speaker and characters. The story was very well told and was easy to understand.

I like what CK-200383434 as they put it the story teller made up a story to go with something he couldn't explain. Thought it was a great way to explain a myth.

  34. i agree with DK-200279366-5 about the Native American Myths , like "The Earth On The Turtles Back" there were great examples of imagery and personification . It was a unique way to incorperate animals and a creation story into one.The author gave clear thoughts and clear point to show the animals and their determination .

  35. My favorite was the Native American myths. Expecially, "When Grizzlies walk up straight." I have always liked myths and it has a moral to the story which teaches a lesson. I could relate to the moral of the story which is to be less curious and obey.

I understand and agree with RB-9931798-2. Myths are very interesting to read. They are also creative and amazing.

I agree with your comment on how Jonathans Edwards used vivid imagery to try and persuade those to come back to the orthodox puritan ways. Even though I did not agree with his extreme ways, I too applaud him for his amazing use of loaded words and emotional appeals.

My favorite type of writing from Unit 1 was the Native American myths. “When Grizzlies Walked Upright” was my favorite piece. The myth really interested me because the characters in the story were portrayed in a very unique way in which they resembled real-life things. The grizzlies and the daughter of the sky god were believed to be the ancestors of the Native Americans. It's interesting how the beliefs of the creation of the world and everything differs from culture to culture.

  38. My favorite type of writing was the Native American creation myths. My favorite piece was "When Grizzlies Walked Upright." It was my favorite piece because it was a great example of how creative the Native Americans were at the explanation of how things came to be. I could identify with the daughter, who had an extreme case of curiousity because I also have a strong sense of curiosity and I usually will get in trouble for that curiosity.
